The Village of Montemarcello
On the border between Liguria and Tuscany lies the Carpione promontory at the center of which is the village of Montemarcello at an elevation of 250m above sea level.
Montemarcello, a locality already known in Roman times taking its name from the consul Marcello, has been included since 2006 in the list of the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy (borghipiubelliditalia.it) and is within the Montemarcello-Magra Natural Park (www.parcomagra.it).
Beautiful old-building paths set off from the village surrounded by maritime pines, olive trees, myrtles and the natural atmosphere of the park. In less than 30 minutes by car, one can reach both the coastal resorts of Versilia and the famous seaside resorts of Lerici and Tellaro with easy access by boat to the Cinque Terre, as well as the Lunigiana and Garfagnana areas making Montemarcello a secluded place, but with the possibility of appreciating multiple experiences.
The sea can be reached directly on foot at Punta Corvo beach in 20 minutes, but…watch out for the climb! Easier-to-reach locations are 10 minutes away by car. Lastly, Montemarcello is also called “the cyclists’ hill” being traveled all year round by cyclists who try their hand along the three climbs up to the village as well as on mountain bikes in the many trails.
Intense glimpses of the sea, a stunning view of the Versilia coast as well as toward the Gulf of Poets; at sunset one is enraptured by the colors, in the silence of the fading daylight.
These are the beloved places of many writers, poets, painters, and without wronging anyone we mention only D.H. Lawrence:
“the coast stretching in a curve that intoxicates me and confuses me with the steamy paradise of small scattered villages, like a handful of shells thrown on the beach….” (1914)
The town center is within a 3-minute walk from the lodge.
